Gameday was on hand in Boston for opening night against the Heat. All I could be reminded of was an old saying my dad would always remind me of. "Bryan, a good team will always beat an all-star team because there is only one ball".
While I believe that was the case last night at The Garden, I am not dumb enough to say this will be the case 20 games from now. Right now, the Heat are an all-star team who has not gelled as of yet. Give those phenominal players a few weeks of games and practices together, and you will see the team people expect last night against the Celtics.
Let's give the Celtics all the credit. They have a core group of guys that have been together for four years now. A top coach in the NBA as well as depth that goes on for days. I expect to see them in the playoffs with the Heat and hopefully (baring injuries) continuing where they left off last year.

In this business there are ups and downs. Last week we were down. Like we say though, this is a marathon not a sprint. Over the course of a month or longer, we will win money. One weekend should not and will not define us.

Needless to say, this week has been what we get paid to do... WIN. We are on fire and tonight should be no different.

Wins, Losses and Lessons

In what I would say was Gameday's worst week of the season, I figured I owe it to our investors to admit where we went wrong. We started the week off strong. We were hitting MLB Playoff games, Thursday and Friday night football and looking great going into the weekend games.

That is where the week turned to crap. We couldnt catch a break. 2 QB's go out with injuries in the first half of Saturday's games and needless to say we got crushed.

The highlight of the weekend was the 1 PM games in the NFL where we went 2-0 but even that was short lived. The Saints lost outright and the Chargers lost a lead late in the fourth to stick it to us. So one would say Sunday night must have got better. Nope. Alex Smith sticks it to us with 2 key interceptions and Frnak Gore puts the ball on the ground not once, but twice. Another loss.

So, that brings us to MNF. Everything is looking great with the Vikings +4.5. Three minutes left to play and Mr. Show me your package Favre decides to add to his interception total with a pick 6. Then with an opportunity to cover with a minute to go, he send another ill advised text, I mean pass to the opposite team to seal our fate.

This was easily the week from hell. Started off strong and couldnt finish. Lots of excuses and "what ifs" but a win is a win and a loss is a lesson.

The lesson we try to explain to our investors is that gambling on sports is a marathon not a sprint. We will make money in the long term just like the stock market but with a higher yield. Just like they say you cant play the market and watch on a daily basis, same goes for the commodity of sports. Overall Gameday wins. This weekend was an embarrassment but a lesson learned about why we preach what we preach.

Monday Night Football- NE v Miami

In a game where two divisional rival will be vying for second place, the story line (and the betting line) is steep with uncertainty. Here is what we know...

The Patriots defense is not playing well. In last weeks win, it took all 48 minutes to beat the lowly Jets at home. Even scoring 38 points wasn't enough to put a bad Bills team away early. The saddest part is that the Patriots offense is hitting on all cylinders. They almost score too quick. Look for the run game to be a huge part of the Patriots game plan on Monday night. If they can control the clock, then put up touchdowns, they should be able to outscore the Dolphins. However, if they have to settle for field goals in the red zone, this could land them in third place in the AFC East.

As for the Fins, the game will rest on the arm of Chad Henne. The Pats defense is solid up front against the run. Look for the Dolphins to exploit the Pats young DB's. If Henne can pick apart the D like every other QB has this year, look for a shootout in Miami tonight. 

The line has moved from a pick to the Pats favored to now the Dolphins favored by one. Very much an uncertain gambling public on who will win. However, the total has been consistently edging upward to now a point total of 48. A divisional game with a lot on the line this early can really set the tone for the winner of this contest. Will it be a high scoring shootout? Will it be a running game and low scoring? Will turnovers be the key? College Football Best Bets

In a weekend where most people will be watching the marquee match ups such as Florida @ Alabama, Stanford @ Oregon, Oklahoma and Texas, Penn State @ Iowa we are looking at some of the less attractive games today that will not get as much attention by the Vegas books.
